Finally, a quick note from our Family Promise ministry:
We are excited to share that one of the families in our program graduated this month! Alea remained goal-oriented and determined to find a permanent home for her and her five-year-old son. In her own words, “I have things on my mind that I need to get finished and it’s like a list in my brain that I’m like 'check, check, check' and I won’t stop until I get all of it fully checked off.” Among the goals she checked off her list was getting a new job, saving and most recently, finding a place for her and her son!
If you’d like to help Alea settle into her new home, her wish list includes cleaning supplies and a vacuum. To schedule a time to drop off any of these items, call the office at 310-782-8196 or donate online and in the comments include, “Family Move-In.” Thank you!
Family Promise of the South Bay (FPSB) is a community-based approach to combat family homelessness. Each evening, one of the churches in the network opens their doors to provide beds, meals, and hospitality. For seven years, St. Cross has offered meals and hospitality to families hosted by Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Torrance.
Due to Covid, since March of 2020 we have been limited to providing financial support. In 2020, St. Cross gave $500 in donations for the families to do their own shopping and meal preparation. We also donated $1200 from the Endowment Fund towards their new transitional housing program. Additionally, several St. Cross members supported the Family Promise Virtual “Empty Bowls” event, their annual fundraiser.
