Who Wrote the Why?

The WHY statement was created by the current St. Cross Vestry members during our virtual vestry retreat in February 2021. Vestry members were asked, “Why St. Cross? What would be missing form your life or the community if St. Cross was not there?” Each Vestry member came up with their own WHY statements. These individual statements were shared in small groups. Then, each small group created a “group” WHY statement to share with the larger group. The trends and themes that were observed were: NOURISH, SERVE, COMMUNITY, and FAITH. Vestry members were encouraged to think about how this statement could drive the future vision and ministries of the church. Many ministries were discussed, including Habitat for Humanity, Laundry Love, Neighbor to Neighbor, and Christian Formation. Together, the Vestry decided on the current WHY statement: To be a community which serves others as a sign of God’s love.
