Vestry Candidate: Sherry Graham
1. I would like to serve on the St. Cross Vestry because: I would like to serve on the St. Cross Vestry because, as I wrote on the white board at the first summer breakfast this year, St Cross is my family. As such, I want to be ever more involved and at a new level. Most importantly, I bring a love for Jesus and a desire to advance God’s Kingdom in the world beginning here at St. Cross. It is helpful to have experience with how the church works; I am a life-long Episcopalian. I have been active in the Women of St. Cross (ECW) and St. Monica's Guild, as well as active in worship as an usher at the 8:00 service for longer than I remember. I have also been part of a team to corral and costume the actors in the annual Christmas pageant for the last several years. Finally, I see the congregation’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor ministry as something worth supporting and prioritizing in my life. Now that I am retired, I feel that I have the time and energy to add my voice, clear thinking and organizational skills.
2. In my life’s work, I am/have been particularly good at these skills: In my life's work and 50-year career as a flight attendant, I have been particularly good at keeping the peace, working with and, as a purser, leading many different personalities, and developing the ability to get along with (most) everyone.
3. Other skills that I have which could be valuable on the Vestry: Other skills that I bring to the table include patience and the ability to listen and to be understanding and compassionate.
4. Special hobbies/interests which I enjoy: I am never without a book. I love to read and I love to cook. I excel at adapting recipes to fit the ingredients on hand. I love spending time in the garden, and especially on lavishing attention on our backyard tomato farm. I am grateful that I have been able to continue to enrich so many of the friendships I have that go back five or more decades, despite the geographical distances involved.
5. The area of ministry that interests me most is: The area of ministry that most interests me is long-term planning for the growth of St. Cross and its place in our community.
