Summer at St. Cross
I know the calendar says that summer begins on June 21, but it’s officially summer at St. Cross!
First, starting this Sunday we’ll be having only one service, at 9 am. (Though if you forget and come at 8 am, we’re happy to make you an honorary member of the Coffee Crew.)
Second, “Thank you!” to all of the teachers who led Sunday School classes during the school year. During the past year I’ve remarked about the growing number of young people and children attending and participating in services, Sunday School, and other events. Your commitment to our children is amazing, and we can’t thank you enough.
I also want to express our appreciation to the chancel, youth, and handbell choirs for their ministries during the past year. If you missed the youth choir’s anthem and the chancel and youth choirs’ joint choral benediction on Sunday, be sure to check those out online. And you have one more chance - this Sunday - to see our handbell choir in action this season.
Finally, please watch these weekly emails for information about exciting summer events, including Summer Choir and (back by popular demand) Summer Breakfasts. Both will begin on Sunday, July 9, and run through July 30.
Even if you’ve never been in a choir before, I think you’ll enjoy Summer Choir. Anyone and everyone is invited to meet in the choir room at 8:15 am to rehearse an anthem to be offered during the 9 am service. No long-term commitment (or aptitude) is required. If you’d like more details, please feel free to reach out to our Director of Music, Sean O’Neal, at soneal@stcross.org.
Summer Breakfasts will be held after each service. Come fellowship over a meal prepared or organized by St. Cross ministries. (And yes, there will still be donuts and coffee for traditionalists.) If your ministry would like to participate by hosting a breakfast, please contact Larry Johnson at (310) 200-2091 or ljohnsonmb@outlook.com.
Peace,
Jack Tedford
Senior Warden
