ST. CROSS’ SABBATICAL
A period of rest and an intermission in labor. An Episcopal Dictionary of the Church.
On Sunday we celebrated the start of Rev. Rachel’s sabbatical in true St. Cross fashion. Thank you so much to St. Cross’ clergy, staff, and others who helped send Rev. Rachel off in style.
So you may be asking, “Now what?” In sermons and weekly emails, Rev. Rachel has encouraged St. Cross to approach the next few months as our sabbatical. That doesn’t mean we’re heading into a time of dormancy; to the contrary, these months will be a generative time for us to try new things and grow as a church community.
Let’s start this weekend by welcoming Camp Stevens’ Executive Director Kathy Wilder, who will preach at both services and roast s’mores over a fire pit in the garth. Starting on June 18, we’ll move to one service at 9 am so St. Cross can enjoy worshiping together over the summer. I am especially excited about plans for Summer Choir in July, when every member of St. Cross is invited to make a joyful noise and participate in musical offerings.
And this is just the beginning. The next few months will be a time to engage in our faith, and connect with each other, in new ways. St. Cross’ clergy and vestry look forward to sharing this time of sabbatical with you.
Peace,
Jack Tedford
