Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, for he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the rivers. (Psalm 24:1-2)
God created all things, and that includes money. Jesus was not opposed to money, but he repeatedly challenged the disciples, scribes, and crowds to become more conscious of their relationship with it. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mt 6:21, Lk 12:33). One way for us to become more conscious of our relationship with money is to write a “money autobiography”. Here is one of the many ways to do it.
Take a quiet moment to focus on your feelings and relationship with money. Then ask yourself: What are your happiest memories about money? Have you ever worried about money? What role did money play at various times in your life? How do you feel about your present financial situation? How have your attitudes about money been shaped by the church or your faith? Have you ever used money to give others freedom and opportunity? Doing exercises like these improves our relationship with money.
