One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism
This Sunday will be another full and glorious celebration of being God's beloved community. We will have baptisms, a guest preacher, remember those who have died in the past year, make our commitment to God's work in the church for the upcoming year, and wrap it up in true St. Cross style with a meal afterwards. I hear there will be a bounce house for the kiddos too!
Every time we baptize, we as a community of faith renew our baptismal vows. After we profess our faith in the God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit we are asked five important questions. To which we respond, "I will with God's help." We don't answer "I do" or "I will" as we can only truly follow God with God's grace and mercy, as we won't always get it right. However, God is always there to renew the relationship with us.
As I said last week in our moment to talk about where we are sharing Christ's love to the wider world, St. Cross will be open on election day (keep an eye out for a special email later this week) from 7am-8pm. Even if you don't make it to the church, I encourage all of us to take a moment on that day and renew our baptismal vows.
- Will you continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers?
- Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?
- Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?
- Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?
- Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?
Yours in Christ,
Rachel+
