New Refugee Couple
"For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome...and who loves the strangers, providing them food and clothing. You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt" Deuteronomy 10:17-19 edited
St. Cross has a long history of helping refugees as they build a new life here in the United States. During my term as rector we have worked with IRIS, a ministry of our diocese, who help to resettle those approved for refugee status. We are about to welcome a new couple. However, it has been a minute since this ministry last convened. We are looking for people to help with any number of tasks. In the early days we will need drivers to help get them to appointments, and to take them around town and introduce them to different stores etc. They are Spanish speakers, and we do not yet know their level of English. We may need some translators. We may need people to help set up bank accounts, budgeting, driving lessons, grocery shopping before they arrive so the apartment is stocked with dry goods and some food. If you are interested in being a part of this important ministry, please talk to Rev. Patti pangelo@stcross.org or Rev. Rachel. We will share more information when it is appropriate to do so. And I hope you will prayerfully consider joining this ministry.
Peace,
Rev. Rachel+
