Lights for Liberty, 7/12 at 8 PM
As I spoke about in my sermon this past Sunday, as Christians we are responsible for respecting the dignity of every human being, leading with grace, hope and love. God has no favorites. Some members have asked what about the homeless and the Veterans in our country who need our help. I absolutely believe we should be working through the challenges of our society to provide for ALL of those in need: those without a home, those who served our country and have not received adequate medical care, and those children who have been separated from their parents at our border and have not been given adequate care. Last August St. Cross Vestry voted to support two asylum seekers, in part because we knew the living situation at Adelanto Detention Center was so horrific, and we had an empty house. We could do something to help respect the dignity of these two people.
For those of you who are inclined, there is a gathering called Lights for Liberty on Friday, July 12 at the Hermosa Pier to shine a light in support of the children being held at detention centers. Our very own church member, Artem, will be speaking about his experience, and what many view as human rights violations. If you would like to join the St. Cross members who will be walking down together, we will leave the church at 8 PM to walk to the pier. Please bring a flashlight or battery operated candle to hold and light up at 9 PM.
