Ash Wednesday
As we begin the solemn forty day journey of Lent, our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and our diocesan bishop John Taylor have called us to join with them in specific ways of observing Lent.
Our Presiding Bishop has called for prayer, fasting and repentance throughout this forty days, and specifically on Wednesdays. I encourage you to read his statement here, or watch the video at the end of the link. Fasting can take many forms and may or may not have to do with food.
Our diocesan bishop has invited our diocese to pay attention and repent of the ways in which we are harming creation. All households within the Diocese of Los Angeles are invited to participate in a Lenten initiative of online tracking to reduce carbon emissions. The initiative is part of a denomination-wide effort involving all dioceses across the Episcopal Church. To learn more and sign up, go to www.sustainislandhome.org.You will notice if you sign up that your deacon and rector already have their homes online and you can join our group.
However you enter into Lent, however you observe your mortality, however you are called to prayer, fasting and repentance, I pray that your Lent is holy and restorative.
Peace,
Rachel+
